It has been five-years since Sami went along to France to undertake his studies in engineering. He is courageous, ambitious, smart, and highly sensitive. Sami returns to Lebanon 3 x per year, in April, August, and December.
Nada, his mother, is 55 years of age and does not work. When Sami announced to her which he could be planning to Paris to study, she was proud but additionally anxious. Scared and worried, she started sleeping less at night, thinking about how her son would survive life in France. From your cold to girls to food, everything worried her.
Before Sami left, he showed his mother using Skype and promised to occasionally to update her on his life, but he wasn’t sure this be sufficient.
Nada spent lots of her days awaiting that Skype notification to find out and speak with her son. Each time Sami returned home, he realized that her face increasingly showed signs of anxiety, which worried him a great deal. He became anxious but was convinced that his diploma from France offers him having a better life.
August 2017. Sami just landed in Lebanon and goes the place to find see his parents. He looks at
his mother’s face and sees something different: she actually is smiling and looks relaxed.
What has happened since 2012
Combined with technological advancements, WhatsApp was introduced to the planet. It was revolutionary in lots of ways. Surprisingly, it changed Nada’s life. She is a quick learner and received a smartphone as a gift from her son. Sami is now able to share many details of his life together with her. Instantaneously, through voice messages, she can hear his voice at any time in the daytime. She could also video-call him even if he could be in the pub, in the different country. Sami sometimes shares images of his lunch, weather, an article of clothing he wanted to buy, and also photos of his new girlfriend. Whenever she likes to anxious, she sends Sami a note, and a lot of that time period, she receives an
instantaneous response.
Technologies have been criticized a lot lately being a reason why families are becoming distant, in some cases, especially for people living abroad, it’s got changed their lives.
