Fabric Painting

Fabric painting cannot only be a real supply of fun but in addition a great possibility to create something truly unique. Most fabrics are suitable for fabric painting, cotton fabrics perform most optimally. It is usually far better to avoid really stretchy fabrics like Lycra. fabric paint will work on these but may “crack” when stretched. Items including t-shirts and cotton bags are the best to start with.

Is actually a program need to choose the item you wish to paint. Whilst not too important higher quality items will offer better results after all if you are expending time creating your piece you desire the finished item being good.

You can find 3 options when painting fabric, fabric pens, fabric paints and 3D fabric pens.

Pens are easier to use but generally could only provide on light coloured fabrics. They are also not really ideal for filling areas. Fabric pens can be found individually or even in sets. Dylon and Pebeo both make top quality pens.

Paints, whilst somewhat harder to make use of, are great for block colour of course, if you select opaque fabric paints these are suitable for both light and dark coloured fabrics.

3D fabric pens are harder to work with but sometimes create some very nice textures and effects on your item.

Sometimes the most effective method is with pens to stipulate and put detail on, then use the paints to fill in then further embellish using 3D pens.

When you’ve got chosen a specific thing to color and also have your paints or pens to hand, it’s start. In case your item is new I would suggest you wash it first. Place a little bit of card involving the material, eg in a very t-shirt or pencil-case so the colours do not tell you on the back and allow your imagination run wild.

If fabric marker pens has dried (except for the 3D pens) most items will demand ironing to repair making it washable. Try this as recommended by the manufacturer (commonly a cool setting) about the reverse or with a little bit of fabric between and that means you do not iron directly on top of the fabric paint. When fixed items painted with fabric paint can be washed with a cool cycle wash (40c). It is usually best to turn them thoroughly first.

These are the basics to begin with therefore it’s up to you as well as your imagination to create your individual unique design. Build your own unique gifts for friends and family.
