First off, it should be understood that in Counter-Strike: Source (CS), there are several different map types. These types are:
Bomb Map (de). The Terrorist goal within a bomb map is usually to set you back a particular location (marked on your own map) and plant an explosive. The explosive is over a timer, so once it really is planted, you need to defend it until detonation.
The counter-terrorist goal on bomb maps would be to stop the terrorists from planting the bomb without exceptions. This can be done by reduction of every one of the terrorists, defusing the planted bomb, or (occasionally) defending the bomb site until time runs out.
Hostage Rescue (cs). In hostage rescue maps, the key goal for counter-terrorists would be to rescue hostages captured and held by the Terrorists. You can also win by reduction of the terrorist team.
The Terrorist goal is always to simply prevent the counter-terrorists from rescuing the hostages by reducing them, or maintaining charge of the hostages until time finishes.
Bomb Maps – Counter-Terrorist. Like a counter-terrorist on bomb maps, your best bet (definitely) would be to take away the terrorist team before they are able to plant the bomb. Defusing the bomb making you a sitting duck, and that is a predicament you want to avoid. Maintaining your terrorists looking to plant the bomb means you get to remain on the defensive, that gives an advantage.
Bomb Maps – Terrorist. As being a terrorist, your main goal is usually to completely overrun a bomb site. If you can not manage a bomb site inside the first 30 seconds, your team will more than likely lose the round. The best method is to rush everyone over a team except for Two or three (tops) to a single site. The opposite few players will behave as a distraction at the other site, hence the counter-terrorists guarding it are not designed in as re-enforcements.
Hostage Maps – Counter-Terrorist. I have found the best tactic to be spreading the team out and attacking from all angles. Coordinate a simultaneous attack if at all possible, but be sure nobody just “runs in, guns blazing,” because that technique almost guarantees death inside a hostage map.
If one side from the attack manages to punch through and have inside the area under Terrorist control, all of those other team should turn to that area so that you can profit the attack.
