How weddings have changed over the decades! From your handful to 400-500 invited guests; one-two to six-eight wedding party members; a fairly easy wedding car to expensive and big wedding cars; three course meals to six course meals; one to three live bands; simple attire to colorful and flamboyant dresses, suits and attire and off-the-cuff to well-prepared wedding speeches.
While we’re talking about aforementioned, wedding speeches continue to be a fundamental part of a marriage and guests do enjoy hearing them, speaking about them before, during and indeed after they’ve been delivered.
We know of groom speech delivered ahead of the meal, in the meal after the meal, however it is of a strong opinion that this wedding speeches needs to be delivered following the meal. I know that for most bridal party speakers i.e. Father with the Bride Speech, Father with the Groom Speech, Bride Speech, Groom Speech and Bestman Speech (the 5 main speakers), they will choose to hold the wedding speeches prior to the meal, to enable them to enjoy their meal (a number of them are paying for it!). However, it’s all about the invited guests and the way many (as wll as the wedding venue staff) would like the wedding ceremony speeches being delivered following your meal for most reasons, some of which include:
The invited guests happen to be fed and watered and aren’t paying attention to wedding speeches on an empty stomach (at least of food, which could be so prior to meal, though weddings today do provide light snacks upon arrival in the wedding venue)
Food might be cooked and served on the agreed time (introduce the marriage speeches prior to the meal as well as their might be a delay of Fifteen minutes to at least one.5 hours, driving your home staff crazy attempting to keep food freshly cooked, presentable and edible)
Wedding ceremony speeches act as the transition in the meal for the dancing (broke happening after the meal, people are expecting ‘a few words’ to get shared regarding the Bride & Groom and they understand they’re able to get up, move, take a break, take a stroll, go to the bar…)
It’s not easy for moms and dads of the Bride & Groom to communicate in public places, as most of them would not be used than it. So, they could, if they so wished, speak ahead of the / their meal.
There should still be some sort of formal wedding speech(es) following the meal…
