For years I have been unable to catch this broadway tour in multiple cities. Something has long been in how. Between work, travel and the rest I usually missed this show. In 2018 everything that changed. I’d the grand privilege of attending media night for the Lion King Musical at the Fabulous Fox Theatre. Discuss the most fitting location for this kind of unprecedented ensemble.
I was a child once the movie premiered in theaters. My mom took my siblings and i also as to the would be one of the most celebrated Disney Classics of them all. The musicals. The tale was new for me but the message of hope was familiar. The tunes like “The Circle of Life” and “Hakuna Matata” might be heard in our household for years to come. To find out my personal favorite childhood movie performed on the live stage only at that most prestigious venue would be a dream be realized.
This production is quite honestly the most visually entrancing theatrical presentation that I have ever seen. From a to z, my senses were thrilled. Because the house lights dimmed, the drums started plus it was showtime. Buyi Zama was outstanding as Rafiki. She was the comic relief through the entire show. Her costume separated itself and her performance was memorable.
Vibrant colors and abstract art laced the entire stage. The variation of Mufasa, as performed by Gerald Ramsey, was riveting. I had been so captivated by the headpiece which he wore. He could fling it around like it absolutely was second nature. Clearly it was.
The dancing was simply captivating. It took me to my days inside a dance company. The performers executed choreography seamlessly while gliding around the stage with grace. I saw quite a few ballerinas too. They may be among the hardest working teams That i’ve ever witnessed on any platform.
Young Simba and Nala were remarkable performers. I could tell they worked hard at their craft and understood blocking. It is essential for young performers to learn the art. It should originate from an authentic place. I don’t know them but I was so proud.
Greg Jackson performed fault Zazu. I kept track of him the whole time. He blew my head with his quick wit while handling his puppet. I loved it!
Timon and Pumbaa were just like I remembered them as a child. The rebel duo with the jungle. Their props were impressive. I could not help but to sing in addition to “Hakuna Matata”.
Mark Campbell literally section of Scar way too well. His headpiece was fun to watch too. The final scene with Mufasa continues to be difficult to watch. My heart sank while he fell to his death.
Adult Simba was played by Gerald Ceasar. His portrayal was noteworthy. There wasn’t any doubt which he was the true king.
Nia Holloway was extraordinary as Nala. From her costume to the delivery of her lines, she was phenomenal. Recently i heard that they attended school in Georgia. Yes, another budding star from your peach state!
Before long, I personally started to think that these actors were real animals. Their movements were very reminiscent of the animal kingdom. Using their feathers, full mane and thoroughly crafted cloths it becomes an experience you could only fully appreciate live.
Audiences were consumed in what happened before them, however it would not be possible without those behind the scenes. Experience has trained me in so much about the industry. Especially how vital background staff are. I applaud all the unseen heroes that helped to create this kind of magnificent show a hit. A manufacture of this magnitude is nothing without one.
There aren’t a lot of words that I can use to explain this once in a lifetime chance to watch magic unfold on stage. A few things i can say is always that I now understand why here is the #1 musical on the planet. Kudos to everyone associated with bringing this story your night after night. All of you have introduced this masterpiece to a different generation inside the most beautiful way.
