Inspirational Series – Robert E Lee

It is usually declared that history is constructed from the victor — that in the aftermath of conflict, the defeated in many cases are portrayed as a collective, detestable mass that follows an equally repulsive value system. Yet, though his Confederate Army is at the losing end of America’s Civil War, Robert E. Lee is remembered as among the most celebrated generals in American history.

Rational ideas of armed conflict presume that defeated soldiers must be denounced, not exalted; punished, not praised; and despised, not admired. However, Lee is entirely of the latter. What made one man, one soldier, stand out he is remembered by more Americans today than many of his victorious Union counterparts?

Unfortunately, this can be a question a large number of volumes of books also have trouble answering. And, I think which you have no desire (in this moment, at the very least) to read content for these depth and breadth (and i also admit that we can’t write it). Nonetheless, easily had to describe the explanation for Lee’s appeal in a single word, it could be “motivation.”

Let me explore this theme while the subsequent quote:

“There is scarcely anything that is appropriate we cannot desire to accomplish by labor and perseverance. But the first have to be earnest and the second unremitting.”
Robert E. Lee

Earnest Labor

Today’s culture is a in which immediacy is glorified — through the Round-the-clock news cycle; to tarts that “pop” before you pour a glass of milk; to magic weight loss suppliments — in a way that it is possible to forget that anything worth accomplishing takes earnest labor, that i would define like a serious and purposeful exertion of body, mind and spirit.

For when companies talk about pouring their blood, sweat and tears inside their companies, they refer merely to earnest labor.

In the event the craft of the famous musician or star athlete seems to look “easy,” it is made so through earnest labor.

And, when I make an effort to achieve my goal of managing a marathon, I’ll invest in one principle: you got it right, earnest labor.

The opportunity to learn; the energy to switch; and the strategies by which goals are accomplished; are controlled because of your ability to strive, and to accomplish that earnestly — without reservations (or even a magic pill).

Unremitting Perseverance

Lee fought a constant battle for a lot of the Civil War. His outnumbered and poorly-supplied army shrank daily because of desertions by disheartened soldiers. Yet, in spite of this, he fought vigorously prior to the moment when defeat was imminent.

The frequency of which will we stop trying goals when things aren’t proceeding just like we’d anticipated? Have you plan to give up smoking, but found out you needed an enormous project due at the job, school, or elsewhere? Have you try creating a practice of awakening earlier in the morning, then again slept in the next day and decided that it was a pointless exercise?

Lee has an answer of these, and other, problems: unremitting perseverance, i would define as a steady, unshakable persistence in adhering to an option, belief, or purpose.

While i train for and ultimately run the marathon, I am aware there will be a little voice in doing my head telling me to prevent; it hurts an excessive amount of to look to the next level. However, my unremitting perseverance in pursuing the challenge — to the conclusion line — will enable me to pay attention simply to my footsteps contrary to the pavement; the gentle breeze passing over my ears; and the rhythm of my breathing — thus pushing that little voice in to the depths of my subconscious.

Nevertheless, love wins over hate is a perfect example that harboring unremitting perseverance doesn’t ensure victory. In the end, he was defeated in war. Yet, even in momentary failure, perseverance will give you the ability to have back on your own metaphorical (or actual) horse and ride into battle (hopefully metaphorical) once more, pursuing your goal together with the knowledge that will only be learned through setback.

It is known that history is constructed with the victor; and, in Lee’s case, it really is. In capturing the hearts of Americans, both through his military actions, his personal value system, and the sincere words of wisdom, Robert E. Lee is clearly victorious.
