Everyday Theology

Whenever the term “Theology” is mentioned, images of the seminary, thick theological books, Greek and Hebrew terms, and also other highfalutin expressions will come up to one’s mind. It appears as if “Theology” is available to the “holy ones”, the “chosen ones”, and the intellectuals. In case you are familiar with the writings of Karl Barth, Martin Luther, Augustine, and so on, you are near to inner towards the inner circle of biblical scholars.

Considerably more if you can speak their language and is able to produce an academically accepted theological work. I have already been students of the Bible School and Theological seminary. Both institutions have taught me to be to possess deeper insight to Church History, Systematic Theology and Biblical backgrounds. Yet even midst the lessons and classroom discussions, questions still roam in my mind. Are typical these true? Don’t do not understand. I am a firm believer that this Bible will be the sole authority over life. I have faith that the Bible may be the Word of God. Being a typical mortal, I will be caught relating to the an entire world of reality and faith, and bridging the gap from to another is quite a mental and spiritual feat. Yet, In my opinion, too that God’s Spirit and beauty is at work to teach us beyond what are the mind can’t comprehend.

Theology is understood to be the study of God, from your Greek word “Theos” (God) and “logos” (study of). According to such, does is imply Theology be learned? Can God be grasped through the human mind? Can God be described merely by words? If an individual features a doctorate degree in Theology, would that mean that, she or he has already a strong grasped of God Himself?

We have met professors of various degrees, and i also have met simple folks with simple thoughts. Yet, comparing on what they view God and express who God is to them, the first sort (most, although not all) would’ve a mouthful of jargon of expressions from the books… a Greek word there… a Hebrew term there… leaving her or his listeners at reduction in space. Alternatively, aforementioned, the straightforward ones, would speak of practical things they’ve got experienced of God’s character. If for the kids God is a useful one, chances are they testify of how God presents for the kids or has given them nutrients.

From whom would I listen more, for the academician in order to person who contains the practical knowledge? It is just a common stating that “Experience is the foremost teacher.” Theory would only remain a theory unless it can be proven true by experiments or by real experience. To put it differently, Theology would only be mere notion of God, unless you’ve got an actual experience with that truth about God.

God is actually real, but unless that reality transcends your brain and is also experienced in everyday situations, the conviction of such truth would never go deep in the center and soul, and neither he or she may convince others to trust such truth.
