Everyday Theology

Whenever the word “Theology” is mentioned, pictures of the seminary, thick theological books, Greek and Hebrew terms, and also other highfalutin expressions will come as much as one’s mind. It seems like “Theology” is restricted to the “holy ones”, the “chosen ones”, and the intellectuals. In case you are familiar with the writings of Karl Barth, Martin Luther, Augustine, and so forth, you’re all-around inner near the inner circle of biblical scholars.

Considerably more if you can speak their language and is able to produce an academically accepted theological work. I have already been a student of your Bible School and Theological seminary. Both institutions have reduced the problem to own deeper insight to Church History, Systematic Theology and Biblical backgrounds. Yet even midst the lessons and classroom discussions, questions still roam i believe. Are these true? Please don’t do not understand. I’m a firm believer how the Bible could be the sole authority over life. I have faith that the Bible is the Word of God. But being a regular mortal, We are caught between your whole world of reality and faith, and bridging the space from one to another is quite a mental and spiritual feat. Yet, I think, too that God’s Spirit and beauty are at make an effort to teach us beyond what are the mind can’t comprehend.

Theology is understood to be the research into God, in the Greek word “Theos” (God) and “logos” (study of). Based on such, does is mean that Theology be learned? Can God be grasped from the human mind? Christian be described merely by words? If someone has a doctorate degree in Theology, would which means that that, she or he has already a strong grasped of God Himself?

I have met professors of assorted degrees, i have met simple folks with simple thoughts. Yet, comparing on what they view God and express who God is always to them, the former (most, and not all) might have a mouthful of jargon of expressions through the books… a Greek word there… a Hebrew term there… leaving his or her listeners at loss in space. Conversely, the second, be simple ones, would bring practical things they’ve experienced of God’s character. If for them God is good, chances are they testify of how God has provided for the kids or has given them nutrients.

From whom would I listen more, on the academician or one who has the working experience? This is a common proclaiming that “Experience is the best teacher.” Theory would only remain a theory unless it really is proven true by experiments or by real experience. To put it differently, Theology would just be mere idea of God, unless you’ve got a real experience of that truth about God.

God is indeed real, but unless that reality transcends your brain and it is proficient in everyday situations, the conviction of which truth would not go deep in one’s heart and soul, and neither he or she could convince others to trust such truth.
